Why don't the pro's adpot this. I scored a TD, air five me. Imagine boxers jumping 'rope' with no rope. Jumping rope strengthens your cordination. Failing is a part of life.. Whats next.. Riding a imaginary bike?

Being competitive isn't fair. There can only be one winner. Losing a game of musical chairs will damage the fragile self esteem of the children. Only the strong will survive mentality.. Dodge ball. Yes, we hit the worst players. Not to be mean, because they were easy targets. When I got tagged, it made me try harder and to become a better player. Animals hunt the old and the weak. Easy prey. Without failure, there is no success.

Neil is reflecting his experiences as a child. Somewhere in Neil's childhood he had a "traumatic" experience as a child. Now that he is highly educated he is now going to make the world right in accordance to Neil's thoughts, beliefs and feelings. Psychology works both ways Neil!

This is a great segment and a great topic. I believe one must fail to grow and succeed. Matt is right and these people that want to ban dodge ball need to get a clue. America? We MUST get tough or the country will become second rate. This school teacher in Acacia AZ that plays shadow tag with her students should be fired. We are too soft.

Wow, these people are crazy! Jumping rope with no rope, that doesn't help to create eye, hand and foot coordination! No touching, how about she has a school with no kids and pretend to teach a lesson that is not really there! Or maybe if the kids just came to school in a bubble! Wow!

Dodgeball and tag? I wish they'd allow snowball fights in school.

That PC school with shadow tag and no touch seems like a horrific place with no sense of reality. I loved dodgeball as a kid, and I wasn't even good at it. I was always amoung the first half of the group to get out.

How does this concept help AT ALL! Its making kids fragile and weak, the kids will end up being wusses and failures. Think about it, there will always be winners and losers in life, they will be hurt emotionally and physically once in a while and they need these experiences. The more they get used to such things the more hurt they will be when they fail.

And seriously no touch policy? When has a hand shake, hug, or pat on the back ever hurt anybody? Never? I thought so.

Basically, all the adults in this piece - save the journalist maybe - are completely insane and shouldn't be allowed to burden kids with their "grown-up" neuroses: The woman wants to live in a bodily-contact free society, one guy advocates the *novel* idea of skipping with an invisible rope, and the other guy likes to pelt small children with bouncy balls :s

When they talk about the new PE being "nurturing" and "pro-social" they seem to be implying that competition is not nurturing or pro-social. Unless it's some 12-year-old screaming racial epithets in a person's ear on XBox Live or something like that (which could be remedied by simply turning the headset off) the whole point of games is to be social. There might be some trash-talking, but that's all in good fun and not something to get all up in arms about.
